The Police Service Commission (PSC) has indicated its interest in collaborating with the University of Nigeria on the way forward for the Nigerian Police as regards a Diploma or Masters programme in Public Relations and Protocol.

The request was presented to the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Benjamin Ozumba during a courtesy call on him by some members of the Police Service Commission led by Austin Braimoh who represented the Head of the Commission's Board.

Barrister Rommy Mom, while addressing the Vice-Chancellor, stated that there is need for the Nigerian police to be availed the opportunity of acquiring certification courses on PR and Protocol from a University like UNN judging by the level of tension in the country.
Mom, emphasized that the commission on its part, will lend its support to the University by attracting International agencies for support in order to avoid heaviness on the part of the University.

The Vice-Chancellor in his remark, said that his administration is always ready for any service that would improve the growth of the country, especially the security system. He assured the Board of the administration’s support and promised to do the best it can. “It is not a burden to us but our responsibility” Prof. Ozumba said.

The VC welcomed the team heartily with special recognition and reference to an Alumnus of the University who also doubles as a friend of the University, Dr Nkemka Jombo-Ofo for the initiative and for finding UNN worthy of the collaboration.

Members of Police Service Commission on a visit to the VC were: Mr Austine Braimoh, Commissioner representing South-South and the Media; Dr Nkemka Jombo-Ofo, Commissioner representing South-East and the Organised Private Sector; Najatu Mohammed, Commissioner representing North-East and Women Interest; Barrister Rommy Mom, Commissioner representing North-Central and Human Rights; Barrister Ugo Uzoukwu representing UNCLP Abuja.
